Whether you’re a lacto-ovo vegetarian who skips meat but still eats eggs and dairy products, or a vegan whose diet includes no animal products, a Gastric Band can still work for you.
In order to get the lean protein you need, turn to soy products such as:
- Tempeh Soy crumbles
- Soy burgers
- Any other soy-based foods found in the produce section and in the refrigerator and freezer cases at the supermarket
Beans are another good source of protein, as are eggs and dairy products for vegetarians who eat them. Just stay away from soy foods that have a lot of breading on them, such as soy corndogs and breaded soy patties - the breading increases the carbohydrates and calories.
Don’t forget to take your vitamin supplements and get your doctor to check your iron and B12 levels from time to time.
